The latest range of commercial ironers have improved still further in the terms of safety and quality of work and they are ideal for hotels, hospital and care home operation as well as many other bulk flat work laundries. The typical unit can operate on flat material between 80 cm and 2 metres on various roller systems but typically a 3 or 4 roller system. The safest roller systems have a detector, which will instantly recognise the slightest touch and will instantly stop the roller and lift the heater plate so that the fingers are not trapped or ironed. This system will give protection against accidents from carelessness or from distraction and provides a system in which the feed operator can work very confidently without worry to provide a safe but accurate feed. The best machines have an automatic release, which can be operated in the case where a power failure may occur and this will remove any chance that the ironed material trapped. This will ensure that there is no possibility of ruining the laundered item in this event. Emergency stop buttons are essential even though these days most emergencies will be catered for automatically. It is particularly useful where there is a feed problem of any sort.
The feed tables tend to be fully adjustable and this allows adjustment for the different sorts of materials ironed. The heater plate is usually aluminium for good heat conduction and the controls ensure an even conduction across the width of the material. An even heat across the heater plate is required to ensure the best finish. There is a need for thermostatic controls on the heating plate for any overheating problems including an emergency stop and release. The layout tables should give a soft fold so that it does not spoil the finished ironed product prior to professional folding.
The larger commercial ironers have large rollers from 200 mm to 500 mm in diameter and are made to deal with the laundry straight from the high spin washing machines without going through an extra process such a hydro extractor or a tumble dryer to remove the excess water content. The advantages of this system are obvious but they do remove both an extra full operation and also save one complete cost item.
