Bridal showers are special events and are typically attended by the women in the bride’s life.  This has become a wonderful way in which the female friends and family of the bride can celebrate her upcoming marriage.  Unlike the hen night or bachelorette party, the bridal shower is not about celebrating the last days of ‘singledom’ but instead about looking forward to the marriage and union of the couple.

This is a happy occasion for the bride and a great way for everyone to meet up to discuss wedding plans and have a great time.

Should You Be a Surrogate Mother? Pros and Cons

Becoming a parent is a blissful experience unlike any other, but unfortunately not every couple has an easy time conceiving a child when they want one. Due to infertility or medical issues, some women are unable to give birth to children of their own, and this is a very painful realization. When a couple is dealing with infertility, they need support from their loved ones as they explore their options. If you are a healthy and fertile woman, you may be interested in helping an infertile couple even further. You may be thinking about becoming a surrogate mother. This is a huge decision for you, just as hiring a surrogate mother is for the couple.

If you think you might like to be a surrogate mother, you will need to learn all you can about the process and be honest with yourself about how to feel. It will require some self-exploration before you determine if you are mentally and physically capable of handling the life-changing (and life-giving) experience of surrogacy. Before you decide to become a surrogate mother, consider some of the pros and cons, and make sure you give yourself enough time to thoroughly weigh them.

Giving the Gift of Life
Certainly the main pro of surrogacy is the ability to give a couple the greatest gift they’ll ever receive – their own child. You should feel a tremendous sense of pride and accomplishment for being the direct reason an infertile couple is able to have a child. You will be providing comfort and relief to the couple, as well as being the cause of a beautiful new and loving family.

Pregnancy
Actually being pregnant can be a pro or a con, depending on your own experience. Some women absolutely love being pregnant, and others find it causes too many unfavourable changes in their body. Every pregnancy is different, and even women who have a very easy one may experience a difficult one next, or vice versa. Of course being a surrogate isn’t possible without going through a pregnancy.

Medical Tests
One of the biggest cons about being a surrogate for many women is the litany of medical tests and procedures they must go through. It is a rigorous process to be approved to be a surrogate. Many couples have already endured heartbreak and disappointment in their quest to have a child, and they do not want to take any more chances. They will want to be absolutely sure your body can handle carrying their child.

Emotional Considerations
If you consider the emotional experience of relinquishing all rights to the child you carried for nine months a con, then surrogacy is not for you. It may be difficult, but you should not have any doubts about your ability to part with the child after it is born. It will be perfectly normal to have an attachment to the child. However, your happiness about giving the gift to a couple in need such greatly overpower your own feelings for the child.

Societal Perception
Some people consider surrogacy unethical. Dealing with the negative opinions of others may be a con, but if you’re prepared to deal with it, don’t let the naysayers stop you. Just understand that not everyone may agree with your choice. On the other hand, many people will think what you are doing is extremely kind, noble and unselfish.

Why There’s a Need for Engagement Rings?

Engagement rings are pieces of jewelry that happened to encompass two important aspects of human life: physical and emotional. We live by 30% physical component and 70% emotional. The law of needs show that emotional need are satisfied at latter part of life. And promised rings have been an important symbol that affected the emotional fulfillment of men and women as they go by the ladder of life.

Rings are made of 10% material and 90% emotion. Obviously, the material component of a ring refers to its physical impact for a woman. First thought is that, rings made of diamonds create an impact of sophistication, elegance, class, and social status. And women have an innate character of being affiliated to such feeling wherein they become the center of the crowd. Everything associated with its physical appearance may it be gold, silver or platinum relates to a woman’s crave for social acknowledgement and acceptance. Even the use of gemstones for rings are attributed to the physical impact of rings.

On the other hand, the 90% component of engagement rings touched the deeper value of a woman. There are some reasons why women would want to have this ring from their loved ones. Women in general are emotional. And the impacts of these rings don’t stay for a while instead last for a long time. The emotional significance of engagement ring has been driven from historical importance and drama passed by this jewelry. It has been proven that only people who felt love or attraction and was given vice versa. It is their craved for higher level of need which include belongingness, security, intimacy and a step closer to esteem level of need. These are the third and fourth level at Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.

It might be hard for a man to understand how engagement rings significantly affect the emotional stability of women and it’s relation to promised rings. Remember that engagement rings are always associated with true love, sincerity and commitment. Women are always hoping for love because of their affiliation to fantasy, romance and happy ending stories while, generally, women have inferiority complex. They always felt less of a person and ended to become meek and stubborn. It may not apply to some women because others apply defense mechanism which make them stronger, and braver and in larger extent become superior.

But to speak with in general, women always hope for true love because they can find shelter at a man’s shoulder. And engagement rings seal this hope for reality, reality that brings happiness for every people in love. Nobody can deny that love brings happiness to life. It can be a source of strength for couples to continue having the relationship and strengthen it as time goes by. It makes a man and a woman stronger because the higher level of needs is reached. They become more secure and felt wonderful of themselves and become more confident in facing other people. It also boosts trust for each other and maintains mutual understanding between two people.

Thus, engagement ring is a fulfillment of human for social and esteem level of need.

Writing about love and relationship as how it relates to engagement rings has been one of the most intriguing topic because many would believe that engagement rings are not assurance to true and everlasting relationship. But in reality, there is deeper sense how engagement rings fulfill the need of a human in social and esteem aspect.

10 Tips for Parenting Newborns

You’ve made it! The long, grueling nine months of pregnancy are gone.  Now, you are left with a precious newborn to love and nurture.  You quickly realize, however, that you were so consumed with the pregnancy that that you forgot to study up on what to do once the baby arrives.  Don’t fret! The following information is created just for you by a mom who was once in your very same situation.  Read the 10 tips that will help make parenting a newborn easier for you.

  • Keep your home warm.  Newborn babies do not have the ability to keep themselves warm. They will rely solely on you to make sure their bodies are kept at the right temperature.  Adjust the thermostat in your home to make sure the baby stays warm, especially during the winter.  Swaddle the baby to help him maintain body heat. A general rule of thumb is that is you are cool, your baby may be cool.
  • Supporting the baby’s head and neck.  You are likely already familiar with how to hold your newborn. It comes natural for most mothers.  Your guests, however, may not be familiar with how to hold him.  Make sure that you encourage your guests to support the baby’s head and neck while holding him.
  • Burping is important to avoid gas. A gassy baby is no fun!  You could spend hours of the night up with a baby who has not been properly burped.  Ensure that you baby burps after each bottle to avoid sleepless nights dealing with gas.
  • Proper hand washing.  Your infant’s immune system will not be fully developed and must be protected.  Be sure that you wash your hands before handling your baby.  If you go out in public, make sure you carry hand sanitizer to ward off germs until your baby’s immune system is developed.
  • No shaking.  You have heard of baby shaking syndrome.  Be very careful with how you handle your baby. Gentleness should be the only rule.  Don’t allow people who are rough to handle your baby.
  • Eye contact is important for bonding.  A mother and her baby will bond within the first few weeks of the baby being born.  Focus on bonding by making eye contact with the baby during feedings.  The baby will become familiar with your smell, the way you look, and how your voice sounds. This will give him comfort during times of distress.
  • Your baby will sleep the majority of the day.  Don’t be alarmed. You can expect your newborn to want to sleep a lot! Don’t be worried over this. It is perfectly normal. Take advantage of this fact and sleep while you baby is sleeping. This will give you much needed rest after a long night of taking care of a newborn.
  • Avoid sleeping in the same bed with your baby.  When it comes time for rest, put your baby in his own bed. This will help you avoid accidents that commonly occur when parents sleep with newborns.  Keep the baby bed in your room or close to you but do not put the baby in the same bed as you are in.
  • Bottles need to be sanitized.   If you are bottle feeding, special precautious need to be taken to sanitize the bottle after feedings.  This will make sure that your child doesn’t get sick from germs or bacteria that live on the surface of the bottles.  Boil the bottles in water for a few minutes to kill the germs.
  • Wash your baby’s clothes in gentile detergent to avoid break outs.  Newborns have very sensitive skin. For this reason, you want to avoid washing his clothes and blankets in harsh detergents.  There are detergents formulated just for babies that will gently cleanse the clothes.  While it will add expense to your monthly budget, it will also help keep your baby’s skin from having a reaction. The smell of harsh detergents can also be irritating for babies.

Bringing a newborn home can be a very stressful time for everyone in the household. If you are a new mom, the stress is multiplied even more.  Use the tips above to help you care for your precious bundle of joy.  Relax and enjoy your baby.

The Joys of Parenting

Parenting, like everything else, has its benefits and downsides. But according to most parents the joys of parenting far outweigh the cons. First time moms will attest that there is nothing like the pain of being in labor to make them realize how hard it is to be a mother. But when their child is placed in their arms all the pain and heartache seems to go away and is replaced with a feeling of wonder and amazement. Every life is a miracle – especially if it has come from you.

The bond between mother and child is very strong. The bonding doesn’t only happen the first time you hold your little angel in your arms. It begins at the moment of conception. Bonding begins when your baby starts growing inside you. As the eldest of three children I have often witnessed how my mother would take care of my little brothers. I have always thought that parenting was tiresome and even burdensome. But whenever I see my mom holding my little brother in her arms her face lights up like a kid on Christmas day. According to my mother the only way to experience the joys of parenting is when you have a kid yourself.

Many couples avoid having children because they think that they are a liability. That when they have kids they will no longer be free to come and go as they please. And you know what, they are right. I have so many friends who, after bearing children, have become home bodies. And whenever we get together all they talk about is their kids! But what they never fail to share is the fact that nothing can ever compare to the feeling of being a parent. Sure it’s not all fun and joy. There are times when your kids can drive you crazy with their endless questions and bizarre antics. They can really drive up the wall with their perpetual nagging. You know how children can be really persistent. When they want something they just won’t shut up until you agree to their demands! But then when you tuck them in bed and kiss them good night your heart just seems to swell out of your chest as you gaze at their angelic faces as they drift off to sleep.

Rearing a child is never easy – especially when your kid starts having a mind of his own. You’ll end up wondering how he got to be so independent. You can read all the books you want about child rearing but you’ll soon find out that experience is the best teacher. Parenting in itself is a form of education. Regardless where you come from or what your background is you’ll discover that nothing beats experiences. Yes. Experience is still the best teacher. But as my mom says, it’s an experience that is well worth the trouble. Because out of everything she has tried in life nothing quite compares to the joys of parenting.

How to Discipline Your Children the Right Way

Being a parent is not easy. There are so many things parents need to learn in child rearing. One thing parents must learn is how to discipline their children. Contrary to what most people think, the word “discipline” is not synonymous to “punishment”. Discipline is more about teaching your child how to differentiate between right and wrong. It is about educating them how to respect others and about feeling confident and secure and loved. Learning how to discipline your child effectively is a skill that can be learned. And it should be a skill that every parent should seek to hone.

Here are some tips on how to discipline your child the right way.

First of all, be clear with them on what is right and what is wrong. Explain in simple terms what the difference between “right” and “wrong” is. Give specific examples. You have to be crystal clear about the distinction between the two to avoid confusing your child. Then explain what the consequences are for doing what is wrong.

Second, be consistent. If, for example, your kid is prone to temper tantrums be firm with your stand. What usually happens is that most parents try to say no at first but then eventually give in once their child begins acting up. If you make this a habit your child will know that he can easily wrap you around his little finger and this will encourage him to repeat this in the future.

Third, stay calm. Children can really test our patience. But no matter how irritated you may feel, resist the urge to strike back in anger. This won’t help matters. This will also teach your children the wrong values. If you feel like you can’t take it anymore then take a break. Cool down first. Don’t make decisions when you are angry because chances are you’ll end up doing or saying something you’ll regret.

Fourth, avoid criticism. Be generous with praise and stingy with criticism. Children are very sensitive. They will often take what you say to heart. This can cause damage that they can carry until adulthood.

Rearing children might not be easy. But it is immensely rewarding experience. If brought up the right way children can really become our pride and joy.
