How To Win At Pub Quizzes (Without Cheating!)

The traditional pub quiz has been a mainstay of entertainment for many decades now, and it provides a fun night for all concerned. Although there is often a lucrative first prize for the winning team, many people take part purely for the opportunity to socialise with friends and perhaps to show off their levels of general knowledge.

However, if you’ve ever aspired to be a member of the winning side, there are a few tips which can help you. There is no magic formula, of course, but there are ways to increase your chances of victory. I can’t guarantee complete success, but I can offer you a little encouragement that might make you some much-needed cash.

1. Diversity is everything:
The most important factor in choosing the members of a successful quiz team is diversity. If all of you know everything about sports but nothing about history, you are going to struggle. Therefore, make sure you have a wide circle of knowledge and interest. Many quizzes have a music round included, and for that you may need to have members from different age groups. It’s all very well if you remember The Beatles, but you may not know much about Lady Gaga.

2. Read the papers:
Many quiz compilers will include a question or two about current affairs, so in the day or two beforehand you should pay particular attention to the news reports on the TV and radio, and keeping up to date via the newspapers is also a good idea. A good knowledge of members of the cabinet, the top songs in the charts, recent celebrity deaths and last weekend’s football results could make the difference between winning and losing.

3. Go with your instinct:
When a question is first asked, many quizzers will have an instant recognition of what they perceive to be the correct answer, only to talk themselves out of it by the time they put pen to paper. While this can be successful sometimes, it can also add some unwanted confusion. Therefore, if you are torn between two viable answers, the chances are your first reaction will be the correct one.

4. Don’t overdo the alcohol:
Alcohol and pub quizzes go hand in hand, of course, and I’m not suggesting for a moment that anyone has to stay on the mineral water for the evening. However, it’s a simple fact that your judgement will be hampered by too many beers or wines. Exercising caution could bear fruit if you manage to remain focused on getting the right answers time after time.

David Rice lives in the UK and is a keen fan of pub quizzes. He likes to have an advantage over other teams, but he would never use spy gadgets to view their answers.

Dangerous Cities You Don’t Want to Live In

We live in a world where law and order have to either be kept up by ethical people or maintained through physical force. In some parts of the world, these two factors combine to create very peaceful places. However, in other parts of the world a lack of both lead to extreme danger for everyone. In some places, even the gang bangers are in danger on a constant basis. The following is a list of different cities where you most likely don’t even want to visit, let alone live.

Bogota, Columbia

Violence is a way of life in this city. Being a major part of the Colombian drug trade, territorial fights for control of any given area make shootings extremely common. Also, the area has a proliferation of car bombings, perhaps higher than any other city in the world. Adding to these factors is a poorly funded, corrupt police force.

Mogadishu, Somalia

This is street crime central. Being kidnapped, blown up by a roadside bomb or suddenly finding oneself in the midst of an armed engagement between rebels and anyone else with a gun are common occurrences. Being outside in Mogadishu, whether you’re an American or not, is an exercise in courage.  Illegal roadblocks and the bandits who set them up are a substantial part of the problem, and having little central government does not help matters at all.

Detroit, Michigan, United States

While the US is no stranger to violence, some cities are far more violent than others. Detroit is the most dangerous city in the United States partially because of the high poverty rate. By the statistics, every person in this city has more than a 1% chance of being involved in a violent crime. The fact that the young male population has little to do besides commit crimes due to all the factory closings means that average of over 300 murders per year may indicate Detroit’s fastest-growing profession.

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is a very impoverished place where the political climate is in a state of great change. While being pick-pocketed is more likely than being shot or raped, violence in the area is steadily rising, with political protests increasingly turning violent.

There are places in the world you do not want to visit, and places only a truly brave or insane person would want to live in. No list could describe how dangerous some parts of the world are, but this list has highlighted some of the worst cities.

How To Throw The Perfect Dinner Party

Attending parties is fun. You get to eat good food, meet new people and generally enjoy yourself. These are the perks of being a guest. But what if you are the host? Being a host is not easy. You have to think about many thinks. Is the food ok? Are the drinks enough? Is everybody seated where they should be? Yes. Being the host of a dinner part isn’t easy. To help you out, here are a few tips on how to throw the perfect dinner party.

  • What is the party for? Before you begin making that guest list, ask yourself why you are celebrating in the first place. This will help set the theme for the party. Is it to honor someone, celebrate an occasion or to have fellowship with friends and family?
  • Create the guest list. Who are you going to invite to the party? Once you have determined what the celebration is for, you can determine who you are going to invite. If it is for promotion purposes, make sure you don’t omit important people to avoid offending them.
  • Chose a date. Select a date for your party and start inviting people at least 2 weeks in advance. This will give them ample time to prepare and book their calendars ahead of time.
  • Chose a theme. Every party has a theme. Is it going to be formal, semi-formal or casual? Is it going to be a laid back barbecue or a formal fund raising event? Having a theme will give you structure and will help you determine the type of dress code you should follow.
  • Create a menu. Food is one of the most important parts of a party so this should be taken cared of well in advance. The type of food served will depend of the number of people attending and the type of party you are throwing. To make things easier for you, hire a good caterer to assist you with the preparations.
  • Set the music. Music can help liven up your party. So choose your soundtrack well. Lively music can be good of a barbecue party. Soft jazzy music is more fitting for a formal gathering.

Throwing a party doesn’t have to be hard. Follow these tips and throw the best dinner party of your life.

Crazy Chat Roulette UK Review

Ok, so today I was informed of this site chatroulette UK and thought I would go check it out for something different, and here are my thoughts on the site:

1. Over the site concept and way it works is ok, but I can only give it an 8/10 because the next button to change to a new chat partner didnt work very well for me, which was a big let down :(
2. The home page has far too many ads on it IMHO, and could do with a much better design as the plan white background with nothing but the video chat screen and ads all around it is a little poor and boring TBH.
3. The blog has a very little content and was quite frankly rather pointless IMO :(
4. I have been contacted by Chat Roulette today and informed that both the video and photo sections have been updated wtih some great and funny content, its well worth a peek if :) The photos section dont work (photos simple didnt load) also the video section has nothing in it!

Not sure if all the above is because the site is new or not, but if it dont under go some changes soon and have some more relevant and interesting content added on a regular basis, I cant see the site lasting very long, which is a shame because as I said above, its a good concept and could do really well if the owner puts some more effort into making the site better, more user friendly and removes the ad spam!

Ok I think thats it for now on the site, but I hope people are willing to give it a shot as I will most likely check back on it again in the near future to see if it has been improved or not! I will be sending a link to this review to the owner in the hope he/she will take some of my notes on board in order to make the site a lot better then it is to help get and keep more video chatters on the site :)

Also, I will most likely be giving another review of the site once I see or hear of some changes to its design, functionality, removal of ad spam, some good content in the blog to keep people wanting to come back to the site time and time again, updates to the photo and video section with some fun and interesting photos and videos to make others want to get involved in adding content to them.

Because, TBH thats what the site needs most, to make people want to join in with adding content and having more video chats because ATM the site has nothing interesting to offer to entice people in and to stay around/come back!

Benefits Of An Above Ground Swimming Pool

Well in an ideal World we would probably all love to have an in-ground swimming pool. However they have a lot of disadvantages, firstly there is the cost – An in-ground pool will cost a minimum of £10,000 and a more realistic cost is around £20,000.

Where as an above ground swimming pool will come in at a fraction of this cost, with even a large oval frame pool costing around £4,500 (At the high end, at the lower end a metal framed oval pool could be just £1,500) they cannot be overlooked.

Unlike an in-ground pool if you move house you can simply empty the water out and take it with you. You cannot do that with an in-ground pool.

Also if you buy an above ground swimming pool and find that you actually rarely use it then you can always re-sell it. In addition if you place it in your garden and find it is in the wrong position then you can easily move it to another location.

They are also very fast to get up and running, an in-ground pool will take around three weeks to build, but even the largest of oval above ground swimming pools will only take a weekend to assemble.

You can build one with only basic DIY skills as most panels just clip together.

Also if they spring a leak then it is far easier to find where it is coming from, and in the worst case you just have to let out enough water to get to the leak from the outside of the pool. Whereas with an in-ground pool you may have to dig up the soil to reach the source of the leak.

So all in all above ground swimming pools offer great benefits.
