Choosing The Right Shower The Job

When it comes to bathrooms then there is often nothing better than a good shower to wake you up first thing in the morning or ease the aches and pains away after some hard exercise.

In these days when we all lead busy lives a shower can often be used far more than a bath can be and they have the added benefit in that they use far less water than a bath does.

However the right shower choice is vital as there is nothing worse than having a shower that is only ever lukewarm or has so little water pressure that the shower merely dribbles water on your body, and does not pummel your shoulders like a good power shower does.

And that leads me to the first factor that you have to take in to consideration when deciding what type of shower to buy, and that is how strong is your water pressure?

If you have low water pressure then you may well need to opt for a “Power shower,” which boosts your water pressure with an electric pump, and power showers also heat the water themselves meaning that you do not have to rely on having a hot water tank or even a combi-boiler.

Which leads me on to the second factor that you need to consider, which is your heating system as this can also dictate what type of shower you opt to buy.

If you have a traditional boiler set-up (As opposed to a combi-boiler) and good water pressure then you will not need a power shower and can simply choose to purchase a normal shower head and mixer tap to control the temperature in your shower cabinet.

If you have a combi-boiler, which produces hot water on demand then you can also opt for a normal shower mixer setup, but if you have low water pressure then you may want to consider the use of a booster pump rather than a “Power shower”.

Likewise if you have a traditional boiler set-up with a hot water tank, but with low water pressure then you could also install a booster pump.

So as you can see when choosing a new shower you have to take both your water pressure and the type of boiler you have in to consideration.

But whatever your situation there is sure to be a solution for you when it comes to picking a new shower, but if in doubt consult your shower supplier for advice.

Showers Ever Changing Face

The electric shower has changed remarkably over the years and the speed of operation has now grown to meet all requirements. The hot water tank fed showers which mixed hot water with the cold water supply to get the right temperature had a distinct advantage as the hot water was already there and the power to rapidly heat a large volume of water instantly was not required. Shower heaters had to heat cold water quickly and accurately but the heaters were smaller and the water never seemed to be hot enough and there seemed to never be a large enough flow. This has now changed and the modern day heaters are large and powerful and can give an excellent supply of hot water.

The modern day galaxy heaters are more than twice the size of the first shower heaters with a range of sizes available typically 8.5 KW, 9.5 KW and 10.5 KW. This can heat the cold water supply to the temperatures required very quickly. The best showers have a very accurate temperature control. The stabilisation of water temperature is the single most significant change to the shower technology over the past few years. Jumping into a shower used to be a major problem as the water was either too hot or too cold. Now once set there is very little requirement to change the settings from shower to shower let alone within a single shower. The temperature is selected easily with simple numbered controls and there is an auto reset for any safety cut outs.

The modern shower does have a good safety system with low water pressure warnings and emergency cut outs when anything goes wrong. One of the advantages of modern electronics is that controls can be simple and effective and very small in size. The whole shower system comes with very sleek lines and the size compared to the first electrical showers is quite small and fits into their surroundings very well. The shower is now something that is much more enjoyable, there are all sorts of different spray types that can be examined and the good showers have a handset control that can be used to set one of six different shower sprays.

One interesting development has been a scale reducing system that protects the heating elements in the shower. In the past hard water areas suffered greatly and shower heaters became ineffective as the scale built up but the new systems can give a vastly increased life by limiting scale production. This is certainly worth installing into the shower system.

The Future Of Online Auctions

As more and more of us go about buying online, we are tending to spend more and more time searching out the best low priced bargains we can, and large numbers of us always check the large online auction sites to see if the item we are looking at purchasing is available there. Yet it is very easy to miss out and either forget about when an auction is ending or find that the price jumps up so high in a bidding frenzy that it is can no longer be classed as a bargain.

Many people get frustrated at this and you may well be one of them, so why not have a look at one of the alternative new online formats that are becoming increasingly popular.

Unlike eBay, these new online auctions offer the benefit of brand new goods every single time, that is right no more worrying whether the used item you have bought is going to arrive as described or arrive in a poor condition.

Also with the new wave of online auction formats you do not have the worry about wining an item, but then being forced to pay the seller’s very high postage and packing fees, this is because when you win an item, free delivery is included in the price.

Both of these factors make them extremely attractive to enter and these are two of the main reasons why they are so popular to bid on.

There are a wide range of new formats to try out, from the traditional highest bid wins (But remember that you are going to get a new item and free delivery), penny auctions, price drop auctions, half price auctions, charity ones and even ones with cash to win.

However there is some expense involved in bidding, as to bid you will need to buy credits, you then use up one credit for each bid you make. You can buy and use as few or as many credits as you want in each auction, and any unused ones are simply carried over for future use e.g. the credits do not run out if you have not used them all up.

Each one has its own unique features and you may want to try a few different ones before settling on one that is ideal for you. The good news is that many of them are far more fun to enter than a traditional online auction and well worth trying out.

Door Security With Door Handles, Locks And A Good Door!

The first line of defence for any home is the door, either the front door or the back door and maybe some interior doors as well. Getting good door security is now, and probably always has been, a major problem as those that want to break into a house get more innovative in how to crack the house entry systems. This has become even more of a problem as the most common way to steal a car is to break into the house and steal the keys to the car as the car security systems are so good that this is the easier route.

Good door handles and locks combined with a good door and an alarm system can make those that want to rob you consider that it is easier and safer to go elsewhere. The insurance companies also agree with this point of view and will often offer cheaper insurance premiums if the doors have excellent locks and doors. A good door lock will cost quite a lot but it only has to be done once and it is well worth making the effort to get a good lock. A good lock can cost between £50 and £95 for a decent 5 lever sash bolt lock but this type of lock will provide a good secure lock whilst allowing the door to open and close with ease.

The materials with which the lock is made are high quality steels and whilst they often have a brass finish all the supporting and locking components are made from high quality steels. This means that the lock is saw proof in the first place to stop any portable saw attack and the 5 lever locking system makes the locks so that they cannot be picked even by the better locksmith. They cannot be forced and it would require the destruction of the door to get in. If it is a good door this cannot be done quietly and it would be easier to go elsewhere.

It is possible to buy cheaper locks and for the garden shed and outhouse this might be worth considering but in the case of the main doors take the safe route it will be worth the money. A good strong door handle will add to the deterrent and also add to the general appearance. Get a good supplier and do not forget the back door as well as the front door and any other obvious entrance.

Getting A Handle On Things!

When it comes to choosing door handles it can be far too easy to just pick something based upon price that may just “Do the job,” get it home and fit it. However whilst it may do the job, it may not exactly look great. Indeed if you buy the wrong looking door handle then it can take a good looking door and simply ruin it.

Yet sadly for many people a handle is just a handle, but with a bit of thought when choosing one they can become an eye catching feature rather than just a functional object.

It may be that like many people you end up buying them from your local Do It Yourself (DIY) store, as there is nowhere else nearby to get them from. This can often mean a compromise on what you would like, versus what you can actually get hold of.

However with the advent of the Internet with a little searching around you can find a vast range of great looking door handles to order online.

This means you can now find just the right style that you want to make your door look great, and a good looking door handle can turn a fairly ordinary door into a great looking one.

But when it comes to choosing a door handle you do need to think about the usage that it is going to get, as whilst a nice chrome door handle may look stunning, you may find that it is prone to scratches from any rings that you may have on your hands, so this type of handle may be better suited to a room that is used occasionally rather than on a door that gets a high level of traffic going through it, whereby a hard wearing stainless steel might be more appropriate.

By choosing to order online you have a high level of flexibility, and are far more likely to be able to find just the style you want and probably for far less money than you would pay in your local DIY store. A good supplier is likely to offer free delivery and have a returns policy that allows you to return the goods if you are not entirely happy with how they look when you get them.

So the next time you need to buy a door handle why not take some time to search on the Internet for your ideal handle?

Handles4u is a UK based door handles specialist selling handles since 1995. You can find a large range of door handles as well as cabinet handles and knobs to suite all your every need such as glass door handles and much more.

Industrial Plugs And Sockets

The electrical plug and socket systems were designed almost from the time that electrically powered systems were first developed and now almost every electrical system has a way of connecting and disconnecting the electrical supplies quickly, efficiently and accurately. The manufacturers have worked very hard over the years to make the present day systems correct to carry out the current without overheating or supplying a non-standard supply by means of a faulty joint.

The designs started with 2 pin plugs and sockets and gradually moved on to the typical 3 pin 13 amp plug for a 240 Volt supply as the systems became standard and an earth connection became essential. Industry became a much heavier user and they demanded a safer and progressively more robust carrier with a 4 pin plug built to meet the circuit requirements for use with a 415 volt three phase supply or even a 2 phase 240 v supply which is reduced to a 110 volt supply.

The present day plugs are superb in their engineering and are built to withstand most of the potential damage which can befall them. The plugs are made from a high strength techno-polymer which has very high resistance to crushing and large impact forces and are capable of being walked without any damage on if they are used in such an environment. The sockets are made of the same basic materials so that an excellent joint is made when the two parts are fixed together.

Invariably modern day plug and socket systems are made to withstand water access and the joint are fully insulated against water ingress. The plug has the cable passing through the entry and a sealing ring is tightened up once the electrical connection has been made to eliminate any water ingress through this joint. The same procedure happens on the socket. When the plug is pushed into the socket there are a series of plastic collars, which prevent water access, the joint is usually pointed downwards to eliminate possibility that water could get into the plug.

Industrial plugs are finally turned through a quarter of a turn to form a final joint. The prongs have a crown on which there is a multi-lamellar crown in silver beryllium alloy that guarantees a long lasting electrical contact, a wider contact surface which will be pit free and is still easy to remove. There is a full range for all the voltage and current levels you wish to see.

The Electrical Counter are a well know electrical wholesale company in the UK, where you will find a large range of Redring Showers and Redring Water heater.

Sanitizing Your Kitchen Sinks Is Important!

Probably the biggest single push in modern household hygiene efforts has been directed at the kitchen as this is where the bulk of germs and bacteria can be found within the modern home. This has been a major problem because the handling of food is where germs are found and transmitted. Door handles have become a major focus of transmission as germs are moved by hand from one place to another but they are not the only source, there are many surface and working areas where the food is prepared that are extremely vulnerable. The result is a rapid and continual cleaning discipline that removes many of the problems. One of the other areas, which are being examined, is in the manufacture of kitchen equipment that is resistant or helpful in removing germs and bacteria.

The kitchen sink is one area where that problem is quite significant. It is the one area where all the germs and bacteria are sure to pass through, food is washed in the sink and all the cooking utensils are washed in the sink as well as all the serving dishes and plates. The result is a complete medley of bacteria, which require to be cleaned as soon as possible. The good manufacturers have tackled this by building their sinks of materials, which can be easily cleaned and the cleaning products have been developed to deal with this problem. The problem comes when the cleaning is not quite good enough or fast enough, there is always a gap between washing and overall cleaning.

One company has decided to do something about this by developing a sanitized system within the material that the sink is made from. Any bacteria which has been left unattended is estimated to multiply every 20 minutes but a Fragonite sink which has had a sanitising product included will reduce the bacteria growth by a claimed 99%. This does not stop the need for cleaning but it does put a substantial break onto the multiplication of germs at probably the most significant hub of the kitchen germ and bacteria production. The system works by using silver ions to deactivate the bacteria and because the system is built into the sink surface it works for 24 hours a day, the result is that instead of the bacteria building up in peaks as the bugs multiply with time until the next cleaning cycle the level remains at a low steady level. This greatly reduces the availability of bacteria to spread and hygiene is vastly improved.

Top 4 Bridal Shower Favor Ideas

Make Brides Feel Special with a Perfectly Planned Bridal Shower

How do you make a bridal shower memorable? Well, I’d say, you give guests something special to remember the event by. Bridal shower favors offer the perfect way for you to make this special occasion even more special.  If you are planning a bridal shower for your friends and loved ones, personally chosen favors can be a great way of thanking everyone for attending and creating excitement and interest on the day.

Bridal Showers

Bridal showers are special events and are typically attended by the women in the bride’s life.  This has become a wonderful way in which the female friends and family of the bride can celebrate her upcoming marriage.  Unlike the hen night or bachelorette party, the bridal shower is not about celebrating the last days of ‘singledom’ but instead about looking forward to the marriage and union of the couple.

This is a happy occasion for the bride and a great way for everyone to meet up to discuss wedding plans and have a great time.

Bridal Shower Favors

It is not a strict rule that you need to provide bridal shower favors.  However, this is a lovely way of showing your appreciation for the guests.  If you are planning a bridal shower for a sister, daughter, cousin, friend etc. then you should start thinking about favors as soon as possible.  It is important to get these organized well before the day so that you can concentrate on other important issues such as catering and room decoration.

Here are just a few ideas for bridal shower favors to get you started:

  • Sweet Treats – chocolates, cupcakes, cookies, sweets and other sugary treats are a great idea for bridal shower wedding favors.  These offer a naughty but nice treat for guests and are affordable and easy to organize.  You can buy a lovely range of sweet treats ideal for favors. These can be presented in pretty gift bags or boxes for a simple but stunning party favor.
  • Scented Soaps – small scented soaps are a feast for the senses and offer a lovely little gift for guests.  Ask the bride for her favorite soap scents such as rose, lavender, coconut etc.  Present in little boxes and you could wrap the soaps in colorful tissue paper for a pretty finish.
  • Mint Tins – these little tins are reminiscent of the bonbonierre boxes used for traditional favors for centuries.  Small decorated tins contain mints and are ideal for slipping into handbags and pockets.  You can even get personalized tins that could feature an image of the bride or her name.
  • Costume Jewelry – pretty costume bracelets, necklaces, rings and earrings make beautiful treats for guests.  This is a great idea if you know the bride is interested in jewelry and pretty accessories.

The Modern Toilet

The bathroom suite of today has changed out of all proportion from those of a few years ago and a good many of the user problems have gone with them. Certainly it can be expected that some of the peculiar eccentricities of the past will re surface at some time in the future, it was not long ago that the avocado coloured bathroom suite was the rage whereas now everything must be white. Some of the major changes are related to the operation of the system and these developments are certainly likely to continue for a long time to come.

Consider the household toilet which has gone through so many changes over the years and will probably go through a good many more. One of the major design changes concerns water usage as this is a very valuable natural resource and one that is likely to become more important as time goes by. It is also an expensive utility which will rise in cost at a rate far greater than the cost of living over the next few years. The restrictions on the manufacturers has made the twin flush cistern a priority on every toilet with water level usages down to 3 litres for the small flush and 6 litres for the large flush. This not only reduces the water usage but also the size of the cistern.

Probably the biggest change has been that this has allowed the cisterns to be designed much narrower than the past designs so that on a typical platform toilet the cistern is only 140 mm wide at it widest point. This has allowed the cistern to sit on the back of the toilet bowl and the final overall extension of the toilet and cistern has reduced considerably. The total extension of the toilet and cistern is only 700mm or less. As the bathroom is usually the smallest room in the house and usually the narrowest this is a great space saver.

These changes have spawned some great design changes and the cistern and toilet bowl fit much easier into the design of a single unit. There is far less need for the hidden cistern system as the design looks good on its own and the hidden cistern now takes up more room and extends the toilet from the wall to a significantly larger degree. This allows quite a different approach when considering the overall bathroom design.

Bathroom Cash and Carry are independent bathroom specialists with a range of products to offer such as bathroom suites, Close Coupled Toilets, shower enclosures, Back To Wall Toilets and Whirlpool baths. Along with these general bathroom products, Bathroom C&C also offer a large selection of specialist equipment for a great bathroom finish!
