Commercial Laundries have developed over the years to provide a simple all round service for the complete clothes market. There is always a conundrum in certain markets as to whether it is simpler to provide skilled laundry labour to finish certain articles by hand or to invest in a machine. The problem with individual labour finishing is that the people used must be skilled and able to maintain quality throughout the day as well as being able to produce at an acceptable working rate.
If there is a sufficient market for an item it is often worth considering the automatic or semi-automatic machine for finishing the item. These machines are quick and whilst they are not fully automatic they do a large portion of the work and they achieve a consistent result every time.
One such market is the trouser or pants market which has consistently over the years demanded a high level of labour to finish the clothes to an acceptable level. The development of the finishing topper for trousers has given a semi-automatic machine which will finish both long and short trousers quickly and simply. They will need pressing for creases at the end if this is required but this in itself is a simple job that can be carried out on a standard ironer.
The finishing topper for trousers is a tall machine with a waist holding clamp at the top, the trousers are offered into position and then clamped by a clamp operated by a foot pedal the waist is gently tensioned. Each trouser cuffs are presented to individual clamps on a lower moveable table and the clamps applied individually.
The lower table then automatically lightly tensions the trousers by a downward movement. The trousers are then finished by a steam or a steam air mixture being blown through the centre of the trousers and all creases are removed and the finished status of the material is excellent. It is the tensioning of the trousers that enables a good finish to be obtained.
The bottom table will move automatically from long to short trousers by the push of a button. If pleated trousers are finished in this way the pleats can be put back by means of a pleating accessory in which a pleating clamp comes into position from the side and the operator finishes the pleat by activating the pleat ironer. This is often an extra on the machine but with so many trousers or pants being pleated these days it is generally worth the effort.
